Noncancer Oral Synopsis:

ATSDR and U.S. EPA have evaluated the noncancer oral toxicity data for silver. EPA derived a reference dose (RfD) of 0.005 mg/kg-day based on a critical effect of argyria, a medically benign but permanent bluish-gray discoloration of the skin in humans. ATSDR evaluated the available data but did not derive an oral minimal risk level (MRL) because of the general lack of quantitative information concerning this effect in humans or animals. ATSDR noted that a combined chronic toxicity/carcinogenicity study would be useful to address uncertainties in the database.

The cancer weight of evidence classification is based on all routes of exposure. ATSDR has published a Toxicological Profile for Silver.
