Noncancer Oral Synopsis:

U.S. EPA and ATSDR have has evaluated the noncancer oral toxicity data for white phosphorus. EPA has derived a reference dose (RfD) of 0.00002 mg/kg-day from a reproductive rat study by Condray (1985). EPA used an uncertainty factor of 1000 (10 for interspecies variation, 10 for intraspecies variation and 10 for incomplete reproductive/developmental data and a less than adequate lifetime study). ATSDR did not find appropriate data to calculate a minimal risk level (MRL) for chronic oral exposure; however, ATSDR did calculate an intermediate oral MRL of 0.0002 mg/kg/day, based on the same study and NOAEL that EPA used for the RfD. ATSDR applied an uncertainty factor of 100 (interspecies and intraspecies variation).
